Over the past year the City of Fontana has achieved several success stories that illustrate the hard work and commitment of the City to its residents and visitors. In June 2011, Chaffey College completed a 30,400 square foot expansion of their facilities thanks in large part to an ongoing partnership between the City of Fontana and Chaffey College. The Fontana Police Department has also partnered with the Fontana Unified School District to create the Fontana Leadership Intervention Program (F.L.I.P.), a program designed at changing the lives of at-risk youths for the better. The F.L.I.P. program is an expanding effort on the already successful Fontana After-School Program, which provides a wide array of services aimed at academic achievement for K-12 children during non-school hours. The senior population in Fontana has also seen their lives enriched thanks to the opening of the Fontana Senior Community Center in May 2011, which has created an enhanced environment in which the city’s senior citizens can be active in. Fontana has over forty parks and communities centers including the new thirty-eight acre Fontana Park that is home to a health and fitness center, aquatic center, skate park, dog park and sport complex. These successes and others like them have help the City of Fontana receive numerous accolades including the 2008 Award for 100 Best Communities for Families by Best Life Magazine and 2010 Award for 100 Best Communities for Young from the America’s Promise Alliance.
